Welcome! The Mansfield Fellowship Program—named after Mike Mansfield,
former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Senate Majority Leader, U.S. Senator and U.S.
Congressman from Montana—is a first-of-its-kind program for both the United
States and Japan. The two-year Fellowships enable U.S. federal government
employees to develop an in-depth understanding of Japan, learn how its
government works, and establish relationships with their counterparts in the
government of Japan as well as in the business, professional and academic
communities.
|
Each year, up to 10 two-year Fellowships are awarded to qualified U.S.
government officials. The Fellows spend a year working full-time in the
Japanese government, preceded by a year of rigorous language and area studies
training in the United States. After the year in Japan, the Fellows are
required to serve at least two additional years in the federal government where
it is anticipated they will continue to work on projects involving Japan
issues.
As an applicant for the Mansfield Fellowships you will complete much of the
application online. By using this Online Application Portal, you will be able
to fill out the application in multiple sessions. When you are finished, you
will be able to print a final copy of your application, which you can then
photocopy for submission to the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation (see
online Application Guidelines for specific
submission requirements). This online application may be completed using either
a Mac or a PC. In addition to the sections that you complete online, you have
the option to download the Application Guidelines and Online Application
Instructions for easier reference as you complete this application. Please go
to the Download Forms, Instructions and Guidelines
button on the left. The Online Application
Instructions will help you with the logistics of this process. All work
on the online portions of the application must be completed by 4:00 p.m.
(Eastern Time) on
April 2, 2012.
While we expect that the process will be smooth, there are built-in means for
you to ask any questions you have regarding the application process. Should you
have technical questions or questions about the fellowship itself, please use
the buttons on the left.
Please note that the entire application packet must be received in the Mansfield
Foundation offices by 5:00 p.m. (ET)
April 2, 2012.
